Seven Excels first raced at Mallala in Round 2 of the 2011 State Motor Racing Championships, sharing the grid with MGFs. The category grew to earn its own races and became a major part of South Australian circuit racing.
Trevor Pound helped start the category after donating an Excel X3 to the junior development program in 2010. The early cars raced under adapted Rally Excel specifications before a national circuit-racing ruleset was established.
CEASA helped coordinate the national Group 3E Circuit Excel regulations published in 2014 and the Circuit Excel Management Committee formed in 2015. In 2020, that committee was replaced by the Circuit Excel Racing Association (CERA).
What the club works towards
CEASA represents Circuit Excel competitors in South Australia, works with Motorsport Australia, CERA and event organisers, helps members understand the category’s requirements, and seeks racing, social and promotional opportunities for members.
